Focus on the items that carry value

This method ranks SKUs by annual usage quantity multiplied by unit cost. It measures consumption value, not profit, sales revenue, stock currently on hand or slow-moving stock. Keep costs in a single currency and use the same annual period for every row.

Annual usage value = annual units × unit cost

A contains items until its value target is reached, including the item that crosses the target. B then continues to the A+B target; C contains the remainder. Zero-value items are C. Targets are adjustable and are not guaranteed category percentages.

Use your own spreadsheet

What file is accepted?

UTF-8 CSV or TSV, up to 1 MB and 2,000 data rows. The first row is a header. Map three different columns to SKU, annual usage and unit cost. Use non-negative numbers without currency symbols or thousands separators. Duplicate SKUs are rejected rather than silently combined.

Is C stock obsolete?

No. A low consumption value does not establish inactivity or obsolescence. Consider lead time, demand variation and criticality before deciding a stock policy. No operational records are changed.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Parsing, sorting and export happen in this browser. Edits clear the old result until you analyze again. Spreadsheet-sensitive SKU text is prefixed with an apostrophe only in the CSV export to prevent formula execution.

Worked example

Illustrative inputs and outputs to help you check your own task.

Classify annual consumption value

Inputs
Use A/B thresholds 80% and 95%. EXAMPLE-A: annual usage 100, unit cost 8. EXAMPLE-B: usage 30, cost 5. EXAMPLE-C: usage 10, cost 5.
Output
Annual values are 800, 150 and 50, totalling 1,000. The resulting classes are A, B and C respectively.

Use annual usage and a consistent cost currency. This ranks consumption value rather than profit or current stock value.

Retain an item with zero annual usage

Inputs
Add EXAMPLE-Z with annual usage 0 and unit cost 12 to the positive-value dataset above.
Output
EXAMPLE-Z has annual value 0 and class C. The total annual value remains 1,000.

Class C does not mean “no stock”. The file supplies usage and cost; the analysis does not determine physical stock or obsolescence.
