Container loading

Estimate cartons per container from floor layout, stacking height, weight and door limits. Compare four container types.

Cartons into a container

One carton size, upright. Calculate as you type.

Container dimensions, payload & allowance

Carrier example only. Edit to match your actual equipment. Dimensions below are in mm.

Allowance is subtracted once from each inside dimension. Pallet gross weight and height include the pallet.

Compare container types

Same cargo, rotation, stack limit and allowance. Carrier example dimensions and payloads.

Capacity uses floor layout, height and payload; it is not shipment CBM divided by nominal container CBM.

Plan around space, weight and the door

The tool compares straight and mixed 90° row patterns in both container directions. It selects the best of those patterns, without guaranteeing the best possible packing. All units stay upright.

Capacity = min(layout × layers, payload ÷ gross kg)Round down capacity; round up the container count.

Cartons must individually pass the door in their final orientation. They are stacked inside; the complete stack need not pass the door.

The drawing shows the first layer at maximum estimated capacity, with the door at right. Dense layouts show only the first 300 units. Volume use compares that capacity with the full internal geometric volume.

Before you book or load

Which specifications are used?

Presets use Hapag-Lloyd equipment examples. Manufacturers and individual containers vary; confirm the actual internal dimensions, door opening and permitted payload.

Does this approve a load plan?

This geometric estimate does not assess stability, cargo restraint, weight distribution, carton compression, forklift access or road/vehicle limits. Allow handling space and verify these constraints with your carrier and site procedures. Mixed sizes and irregular cargo are outside this model.

What can I export?

The CSV contains your inputs, the selected container estimate and the four reference comparisons. It is generated locally; the tool does not upload your shipment data.

Worked example

Illustrative inputs and outputs to help you check your own task.

A small custom container

Inputs
Choose Custom. Inside 2000 × 1000 × 1000 mm; door 1000 × 1000 mm; payload 1000 kg; allowance 0. Cartons 50 × 50 × 50 cm, 10 kg, quantity 20, max layers 0.
Output
8 cartons per layer × 2 layers = 16 cartons per container; 2 containers, with 4 cartons in the last.

This simple geometry is an example, not a standard container specification.

Limit fragile cartons to one layer

Inputs
Keep the custom example above and set maximum layers to 1.
Output
Capacity becomes 8 cartons; 20 cartons need 3 containers, with 4 in the last.

The layer limit is your input. The tool does not determine carton compression strength.
